Surge Protection Pepperl+Fuchs
FieldConnex® Surge Protectors are available for process plants at high risk for lightning strikes or other voltage surges. The fieldbus and all instrumentation can be protected with surge protectors:
- For DIN rail installation inside control room cabinets or field junction boxes
- Snap-on connection to trunks or spurs in the fieldbus junction box or control room cabinet
- IP67 enclosure for field installation
Integrated Diagnostics - Zero Maintenance
Depending on intensity and frequency of lightning strikes, surge protectors may lose functionality after one or several hundred voltage spikes. Certainly after each lightning strike and at least annually, surge protector functionality requires validation. Validation is often a manual and labor-intensive process. This work can be eliminated entirely with FieldConnex® Surge Protectors.
FieldConnex® Surge Protectors are available with optional integrated diagnostics. They indicate the end of their useful life via Advanced Diagnostics. A message in the control room indicates the affected spur. The LED of the surge protector indicates locally, which module requires replacement.
Additional engineering for implementation is not required where fieldbus is equipped with the Advanced Diagnostic Module and diagnostic-enabled Segment Protectors.
Convenient installation even as a retrofit
An additional wiring level is omitted with this type of surge protector. The surge protectors can be retrofitted to most fieldbus installations with FieldConnex® Segment Protectors, e.g. Type R2-SP*).
Supporting all Plant Designs
Options permit all installation and maintenance rules. Versions enable or disallow exchange under live conditions. The screen can be connected to ground hard or via gas discharge tubes supporting all common shielding techniques:
- Single-point grounding
- Multi-point grounding
- Capactive grounding
Surge Protectors are certified for installation in the hazardous area up to Zone 1 and Div. 2. Selected devices can be connected to the trunk of DART Fieldbus segments.
